Are you dressing up for halloween? As you know Halloween is coming up, people usually dress up for Halloween. If you don't have a costume here is a great place to be! If you do have one you should stay and read to see some trending costumes. Here are some ideas for you to dress up as for Halloween, Luca, Mandalorian, Dream SMP, Marvel, Squid games, something scary etc. We based these off on popular movies and Youtube stars this year. We asked if anyone had ideas to dress up as for halloween and Jaden and Colleen said “ A cat or Michael Myers idk.” We asked Mrs. Bourland, if she is dressing up this year for Halloween she said, “ Yes, I'm going to be a Dalmatian. My son is going to be a firefighter so I’ll be his rescue partner.”  You may ask how costumes got involved with Halloween? “The  tradition originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts. Over time, Halloween evolved into a day of activities like trick-or-treating, carving jack-o-lanterns, festive gatherings, donning costumes and eating treats.” We got this from Halloween: Origins, Meaning & Traditions - HISTORY Hopefully you guys got ideas for what to wear on Halloween!  Happy Halloween!

Day of the dead

 By:  Santi Arenas

Day of the dead is celebrated on November 1 and it ends on November 2nd. Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday where families welcome back their souls. Family members often clean their graves on the day of the dead. In addition to celebrations, the dead are honored on the day of the dead with Ofrendas-small, personal altars honoring one person. ofrendas only have flowers, their favorite food and drinks, and their picture. The most familiar symbols of the day of the dead may be calacas and Calaveras(Skeletons and skulls), Which appear everywhere during the holiday: in candied sweets, as parade masks, as dolls. Dia de Los Muertos has its origins in Aztec traditions honoring the dead. The Aztec Empire's influence extended throughout present-day Mexico and Central America, while few Native Americans of the present-day U.S. shared Aztec traditions. They would be unlikely to adopt Dia de Los Muertos rituals. The roots of the Day of the Dead celebrated in contemporary Mexico and among those of Mexican heritage in the United States and around the world, go back some 3,000 years, to the rituals honoring the dead in pre-Columbian Mesoamerica. Mr. Perez: they make their favorite dish or their favorite dessert. Beya Lomeli said: that she likes Day of the Dead because they celebrate their family members that have passed away.

The Yarnell Hill Fire

Written By: Nathan Murawski

On June 28, 2013 The Yarnell hill fire started in the Yarnell area around 4:42 PM. It was started by a bolt of dry lightning and hit a dry tree. Eric Marsh woke up to see a big plume of smoke out his window. When they got there it was already big so they got to work. They sent Brenedan Mcdonough to scout out what it looked like from a bird's eye view from some rocks up the trail. Brendan Stayed up on the rocks for a good 15 minutes when Eric noticed the fire was headed straight for Brendan so he tried to contact him via radio but Brendans radio was having some issues prior to the fire. Eric called all the hotshots to fall back and go down the trail. They left Brendan up on the rocks and the fire was at his feet when his senses kicked in to get out of there. While he was running the fire surrounded him and he thought he was going down but right then and there one of the other hotshot crews car pulled up and rescued him. Little did they know that the rest of the hotshots were still on the trail. The fire started to surround the crew and Eric Marsh was getting a feeling that the crew would not make it out alive. The fire surrounded them and it was time for them to deploy the fire resistant blankets. They threw all of their tools and gear out into the brush that was soon to burn. When they deployed they sent a message to Air Operations above and heard that one of the  C-130 fire bombers was incoming and had a full tank of water to drop. Eric Marsh tried to contact the C-130 to drop on them and help them but the C-130 would not listen to them. The fire was growing closer and closer and Eric knew what was about to happen. While all of this is happening, Brendan is at the safe haven listening to his scanner near one of the crew buses. The fire burned all 19 crew members on the trail and all of the equipment was burned to a crisp. When Brendan heard the news he began to cry, frustrated about why he didn't leave sooner. The evacuees were crammed in a nearby highschool gym waiting to see if their husband was the one who survived the fire. When Brendan walked into the gym hearing the cries and sadness filling the air, a burst of sadness flowed through him which caused him to walk out of the gym. Eric Marsh’s wife, Amanda ran out to Brandan on the outside of the gym. He was crying telling himself that it should have been him. Brandan McDonough is now living in Prescott Arizona and is a public speaker for Cops,Firefighter, Veterans and medical services. Here are some questions I asked people to ask students if they have heard of the story. Mrs. Bourland said “I don't think so” and Gauge said “I think I have”.

Have You Heard Of Rugby??

By:Caitlin Brett

Rugby is a very rough contact sport that originated in England but became quite popular in Australia and New Zealand, it was invented in 1823. Rugby's rules are that you have to pass the ball backwards, no tackles above the waist, and you have to tap the ball on the grass on the tri line. Rugby is an all round coed sport until a child turns 13 after a child turns 13 it goes from coed to boys and girls teams. Rugby can be played competitively when you turn 5 and you can play all the way up until you turn 18 and then you join a men's or women's team. Most teams have about 15 to 20 people on them for each age division. The amount of people you need for each game is 7. If you're playing a 7s game then you need 7 and if you're playing full field then you have 14 or 15. Rugby is a unity sport that teaches teamwork, punishment, respect and good sportsmanship. The way the points work is each tri is 5 points and if you high tackle then you get a yellow card and your team loses half a point. To finish off some things that people said about rugby, Rylee said “ I played rugby for a year and I know some of the rules but I forgot a lot of it.” Jesina said “I know it's like football on crack.” Mrs. Waters said “ I know that it's kinda like football with no pads and its fun.” Mr. Perez said “ I know that it was founded in England and I like how physical and intense it is.''

The History of Halloween

By: Colleen Pruitt & Jaden Gonzalez

We all know Halloween, but do you know when it was first celebrated? Halloween originated in the 5th century BC or the Middle Ages. It was an ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain which was held on November 1 in contemporary calendars.  Halloween is celebrated by going door to door and saying Trick or Treat, then they give you some candy. We asked 10 kids what they do on Halloween, 5 said the trick or treat, 2 scared kids, 1 spent time with their family, 1 traded candy, 1 ate candy. We also asked 10 kids if they know how Halloween started (yes or no) 8 said they don’t know and only 2 said they know how it started. Halloween is a fun thing to do with family and get free candy and dress up for fun. Halloween is a one-time thing to do for October. You decorate your house, watch scary movies, and enjoy your day and hand out candy and get candy. What are you doing this Halloween?

Sk8 The Infinity

Elena Gebhard

This anime starts off with Reki Kyan skating to an underground skating competition called “S”. Reki has a job at a skate shop and runs into Langa Hasegawa, the foreign exchange student from Canada, while Langa is looking for a job in a calligraphy shop but is rejected. Reki loses his skateboard outside the calligraphy shop and Langa stops it. Reki teaches Langa how to skate and offers to make a beginners board for him. The skate shop owner overhears and offers Langa a job, which he accepts. The job was a board delivery at S, but they grabbed the wrong board. After the customer refused the board, Langa had to skate instead. This was when everyone discovered Langa’s natural talent, which came from snowboarding. Langa’s skill passes Reki’s and eventually races against the best skater at S. I asked Riley B. if she has heard of “Sk8 The Infinity” and they replied “Yeah I have this one nerd friend who likes it.”  They were talking about me!

By Monty And Reimarq

The NFL has been a huge sport over the years. During 2020 it got more viewers than usual because everybody was at home. The top NFL teams right now are The Cardinals and The Rams. Aaron Donald is on the Rams. He is a Defencive End and the best current player in the NFL. Jerry Rice is the best football player in history. He played as a wide receiver and played 20 seasons. We asked Collin Jenkins what his favorite team is and he responded with "I like the Rams."  We also asked Tysean Turner and he said that he "liked the Ravens."The worst teams in football right now are The Jaguars and The Lions but they still have time to make it up. The game football is super popular right now because of covid. If you want to play in the NFL you have to have good grades and have to have skills. The NFL is super hard because you can get hurt and they can cause huge problems. Football started in 1879, that is 142 years ago! The Green Bay Packers have won four super bowls. There are more than 265 million players in the world, and an estimated 4 billion people are actively watching the sport,  so without a doubt it is the most famous sport.

Turkey Bowl

by:Leilani Ofisa

Turkey bowl also means Turkey bowling. Turkey bowl is when people are bowling with Turkeys. And whoever wins gets a big Turkey for thanksgiving. The Turkey Bowl was going around in 1998. Turkey bowling was stopped  around 2006. Turkey bowling is popular in minor league ice hockey in the United States and Canada. The original variant involves turkey bowling in an aisle of a grocery store. Turkey bowl is a sport which is based on ordinary bowling: a frozen turkey serves as a bowling ball and 10 plastic bottles of soft drinks or water are the bowling pins. The turkey boiled down a smooth surface of painters plastic (using a bar of soap). It is commonly associated with thanksgiving.

The Game of Basketball

By: James Walls & Tysean Turner

“The NBA stands for National Basketball Association.. First, the game of basketball started on November 1, 1946. When the NBA first started out it was not as exciting because they dribbled out the shot clock until it got to 5 seconds left and nobody played defense like they do today.  Another thing about the early NBA games is that players did not get paid a lot to play the game because no one watched the game like they do today.  Today the fans come to the games and pay a lot of money to watch. Today, the NBA games are very exciting and fun to watch. Basketball is not a difficult sport to understand.  You play 12 minute in every quarter and there are 4 quarters in the game. There are so many rules to basketball that the league created a rule book. The ultimate goal in basketball  is to outscore your opponent before the clock runs out. There are many rules in basketball and you must learn all of them to be successful. First rule is, if you foul somebody that goes to your team fouls and if they get to six team fouls then you go into bonus and that is bad because if you foul again they can go to the free throw line and they make points for their team. In addition, if you say something bad to the referee he/she can give you a technical foul which means the other team gets to have 2 free throws and get the ball back. You can only have 5 people on the court at one time and the people that are not in the game are going to get substituted in if the coach puts them in. In order to win the game, you have to score as many points as you can to beat the other team and outscore the team before the time runs out . Basketball is a very competitive sport and if you put forth maximum effort in that sport you can become successful. We asked Santi what his favorite NBA team was and he responded with "the Lakers".  We then asked Wyatt who his favorite player was and he said "Lebron James."

Kids enjoying Bowling

By: Elliana Lopez

Bowling is fun games for parents and kids to spend time together. Sometimes you can be on teams to play against family, and friends and to eat  with friends. These are some people that I asked if they know how to bowl and know other people. There are always arcades to play with friends. There is sometimes candy on how to make a strike. Mrs. Bourland said “yes but I'm not very good at it’. I am always a little to the left of the fin in front. This is another person I asked and her name is Larissa said yes I know how to do bowling and tysean said '' yes the key is to roll down the ball in the middle. This also said yes what you want to do is to stay in the middle as much as you can as possible. This is a person rolling a ball. This is a person trying to make a strike.when bowling started in 2005. If you want to try to know what the highest score is 795 that is the highest score for bowling.
